Sean Tully is an artist and surfer based in Ventura, California.
He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2010. His art practice emphasizes an exchange between the intentional and unintentional. The work is often emotionally charged, engaging influence from various side cultures, perceptions of artistic nostalgia and ubiquitous life experiences shared by all.
Current paintings reflect a more assertive approach to abstraction with bold color and occasional figurative references from his everyday life.
As a second-generation surfer, Sean has surfed professionally and been featured in international publications. His travels have taken him across Europe, Central America, South America, South Africa, and Australia, fostering relationships with noted surf photographers and a connected presence in both local and global surf communities.
Currently, Sean works part-time as a substitute high school teacher at Ventura Unified School District, which allows him time for creative projects and collaborations. He played a key role in establishing WAV Apartments, a live/work space in Ventura, where he spends his days painting, surfing, and walking his dog, Brix.
